Customer Story

Fruit & Vegetable Brigade optimizes distribution with RTI.

The Vegetable & Fruit Brigade, part of Voedselbanken Nederland, faced increasing complexity in managing packaging flows and product registrations at multiple locations.

With the implementation of RTI, they swapped fragmented Excel files and manual reconciliation for one central digital solution. This step provides more transparency, fewer errors and lays the foundation for a smarter, fairer and more efficient distribution system of fresh fruit and vegetables across the entire food bank network.

A shared mission

Combating food waste more efficiently

The Vegetable & Fruit Brigade (GFB) is a volunteer organization within Food Banks Netherlands, responsible for the acquisition, processing and distribution of fruit and vegetables from growers, processors and retailers to distribution centers (DCs). One of their biggest challenges was the management of packaging and product registration, which was maintained in three different Excel files and partly via telephone and e-mail reconciliation. This led to errors, inconsistencies, and inefficiencies within the supply chain.

To address this challenge, Voedselbanken Nederland chose to implement RTI Blockchain, so that uniformity was ensured between the different locations and streamlined packaging registration was created.

An easy switch

Collaboration in practice

Fruit & Vegetable Brigade and Food Banks Netherlands This enabled them to work in one system, sending data directly to both RTI and a Power BI dashboard for goods flow registration.

RTI Blockchain provided a user-friendly digital interface, fully tailored to existing Excel formats, making the switch easy.

The implementation went smoothly, partly thanks to previous experiences with a pilot and a rapid transition within one day.

Impact on Food Banks

The integration of RTI Blockchain ensures greater transparency and accuracy in distributing food products. This contributes to a fairer distribution of products and prevents differences in registrations between locations. Although measurable improvements only become visible after full implementation at all locations, the system already offers initial benefits in the form of first-time-right registration and seamless links between packaging and product registration.

“The RTI Blockchain solution helps us reduce data inconsistencies and ensures better collaboration between branches. With further implementation, we can achieve a fairer distribution of products and more efficient pool management.”

A sustainable future

The next step is full implementation at all GFB locations and DCs of the Food Bank, so that more efficient pool management is possible.

“This means that stationary packaging in one region can be used in another, instead of staying local.”
