Responsibility in the Supply Chain?

Software and processes work hand in hand but are also often undermined by practices and agreements that have been brought to life based on (historically acquired) agreements. Sales-driven companies need to keep doing that, but they also need to concentrate on what is inside whilst serving this customer to the maximum. And to what extent does it make sense for both parties? Besides revenue, do both parties consider (administrative) costs as well? As the cost will be covered by someone, the customer may receive the bill for these hidden costs.

Responsibility in the Supply Chain?

A moment of rest and a cup of coffee gave me a chance to think again. Just like ideas running through your head while taking a shower. Nowadays, doing it over a cup of coffee is more expensive than doing it over a cup of coffee... So I shifted this moment a bit 😉

A lack of focus, a lack of communication, and ignorance are responsible for these costs.

Recognizable points of discussion?:

  • "Oh no, for that customer, we do it like this..."
  • "Well yes and no, it depends... If the order comes from the portal, it is handled differently"
  • "We’re never gonna solve that as long as..."
  • "They mess up and expect that we’ll solve it"
  • "Actually, I don’t know why we agreed on this with the customer/supplier. It has been so ever since"

And then management (or at least the P&L responsible) gets frustrated. Willing to touch the subject and nail it, but also anxious about what will come out. Sticking your head in the mud is not the solution since, at one time...

Go back to the basics

In our view, RTI Blockchain forces and guides parties to go back to the basics. This is because no one has yet been able to refute the fundamental requirements of RTI registration. The historically acquired agreements and lack of options in existing systems keep these processes alive. Any company should ask itself why it needs more data, information, flows, and supply chain agreements.

What else do we need if we have the following information stored?

  • From
  • To
  • Date
  • Item (type)
  • Quantity

Cost driven

The lack of insights also pushes companies to purchase their own crates. Purely because they're done with invoices related to the usage of these assets and the administrative and physical hassle. In the short term, it might make sense, but if we look at the bigger picture, it won’t solve a thing. Well, okay, it might reduce frustration, but you have to spend more on raw materials, sorting & handling, administration, and so on.

The mix of software and processes

The absence of reliable administrative processes impairs sustainability goals and increases total costs of ownership. Lack of administrative understanding and insights pushes purchase and contractual volumes of load carriers. This leads to (increased) production of plastics and wooden products, for example. Anno 2023, there is this mix of software and processes that support you to break with this negative tendency, like RTI Blockchain for Returnable Transport Items (such as pallets, crates, and roll cages).

Remove the band-aid and go for the fix

A bit of care and love, and we’ll get there. Bring your process back to its origin and follow the money. This mix will ensure a more simplified RTI administration. Undoable? No, for sure not, and we’re happy to support you. Since if we stick to the old and repeat fixing the old, we’ll just get more band-aids. Whatever print is on the band-aid (even if it’s Superman), it’s a temporary solution or work-around to cover up and stop bleeding.
